Our P.M. Pre-Kindergarten Program
There are afternoon pre-kindergarten classes from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. While socialization skills are still a large part of the focus in these programs, we offer an in-depth exploration of the alphabet, number and number concepts, shapes, colors, opposites, rhyming words, as well as sorting and classification activities.
Our goal is to ascertain each individual child’s learning style and abilities, while fostering an increased attention span. We promote language development through positive, interactive relationships between the child and the teacher.
As with the preschool classes, there is ample time for hands-on experiences with creative art, play dough, and manipulatives. Time is again divided between large and small group activities. We encourage peer teaching and sharing of ideas within the group. There is also plenty of time for play, for it is through play that we believe children begin to develop conceptual understanding.
The pre-kindergarten program is an integral step towards providing academic readiness skills that will help the children move comfortably into a kindergarten setting.
Staffing in the classroom consists of a lead teacher, co-teacher, and two full-time assistants, all with the required educational background. The ratio of staff to child is 1:6.
